Eleven Months

Our darling boy is now a month away from turning one and my heart breaks a little bit when I think about it. He is the goofiest little boy; he is starting to do things now just to make us giggle and he loves to laugh as well, mostly he laughs at himself.

He can say "mom" and "dad" more clearly now, but those are still his only words. His new trick that he learned a few days ago is pointing to his ears, nose or mouth when we ask him.When I ask him "where is your nose?" he will only ever point to my nose, never his. His signing vocabulary has grown to include "please" and "all done" along with his usual "more" and "food".

He loves to clap for himself whenever he hears "yay" or "good job", make the fish noise/mouth, point at EVERYTHING, scrunch his nose and walk around with his walker. I use the word walk loosely, he is either on his knees pushing it around, or sprinting with it while screaming a nice war cry.

He stands up on everything and is pretty good at standing up, until he realizes that he isn't holding anything and then he squats down. He also refuses to walk unless we are holding both of his fingers. We try and get him to walk between two people, but he just stands and then falls forwards without taking any steps. It's hilarious.

We definitely have a social butterfly on our hands. Meeting new people makes him happy happy happy; mostly when they play with him and tell him how adorable he is (he gets it...a lot. I think he knows it, too :) When we are at church or on airplanes he looks around and talks to people until they acknowledge him and interact with him and he gets mad if they don't!

He is getting into his "helping" stage and won't let me in the kitchen if he isn't there to help. Stirring on the stove, whisking eggs and flipping pancakes are his personal favorite cooking chores. He may have gotten curry all over my favorite white shorts and ruined them, but I have forgiven him :)

In the last week or so he has switched to 12-18 month clothing for about 90%, he still has a few 6-12/9-12 month things he can wear.  Calvin loves swimming and especially going to the beach at Lake Tahoe. He crawls like a bear all over the sand and especially loves to be buried in the sand. I don't know why, but it's hilarious.

 

He dropped another liquid feeding, so he is down to nursing/bottle to once a day, right before he goes to bed at 7:30. He was getting ready for breakfast about 20 minutes after he nursed when he woke up at 7 so I decided to try taking him straight to breakfast instead and he hasn't looked back!  His favorite breakfast foods are still eggs, pancakes and green smoothies. He LOVES any sort of berry, especially blueberries. Even though he still only has two bottom teeth he prefers to take bites out of food rather than us cut it up and put it on his tray. There are very few things he wont eat, but he definitely has preferences. Some dinners he gobbles it right up and others he takes forever to eat because he tries to pick around things.

We just love this crazy boy even more than last month and love seeing his personality come out!

Ten Months

Calvin is now in the double digits! I am not sure what happened at six months, but I feel like once Calvin hit 6 months the time has been going by way too quickly. For this biggest news of all this month, he cut his first two teeth! One night he had a fever of 102, the next morning he slept in about two hours (he didn't make a peep during the night), and when he woke up I could feel two little teeth poking through. He took extra long naps, was a little cranky, but after two days he was as good as new. He loves his new teeth!

This little boy has turned all goofy lately. He thinks he is hilarious and always does the goofiest things. As my dad says, "that kid is ALL boy". In the past week he decided he was over army crawling and went straight to hands and knees crawling; he didn't even practice! One day I was cooking dinner and I looked over and he was just crawling away like a normal 9 month old would. Every once in a while he will still do his speedy army crawl, but I would say overall he has outgrown that form of transportation.

He pulls himself up onto anything and everything and loves to walk along furniture and toys. His other favorite activity is crawling up the stairs- he has gotten pretty fast getting up the stairs but doesn't know how to get down. If we aren't watching him he will just dive down the stairs. Luckily the near death experience has only happened twice. (Downside of have two sets of stairs and not wanting to get three baby gates :)

He just barely (as in two days ago) dropped down to two liquid feedings a day: one when he wakes up in the morning at 7 and then right before he goes to bed around 7:30. He seemed much more interested in having a snack in the afternoon rather than nursing, so we decided just to drop it and he hasn't looked back. He eats breakfast, lunch, dinner and then an afternoon snack. Needlesstosay, he is a fan of eating. Eggs are still his favorite breakfast, alongside my green smoothie. Last week he discovered spitting out food, which is awesome...not. He is still a great eater, but I found that if I ever put something in his mouth he will spit it right out. I just have to stick everything on his plate; first he will eat the thing he likes most, and then he will get around to eating the other things (ex: he will always eat bread before he decides that asparagus is good too. Or he will eat his blueberries before he eats oatmeal.)

He says "mama" and "dada", but not on demand. When he talks to himself the syllables he says are "ding, ding ding" and "bum bum bum" and "na na na". He also loves grunting and squealing from excitement. He could give birds a run for their money. He knows the sign language for "more" and "food". Signing "food" is his favorite pastime. He loves being able to communicate his hunger to me and would sign for food all day long if I kept feeding him. I keep trying to teach him "thank you", but whenever I do it he thinks I am saying "food" so he gets really excited. It's a hopeless cause.

He LOVES to read books, especially his Bug books (by David Carter) or any sort of pop up book. His next favorite is the BabyLit book, "Sherlock Holmes and the Hounds of Baskerville" and then "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom". He says "boom boom" whenever he wants to read the book and it's the cutest thing in America.

His dad is his favorite person in America and he always cries when we leave the medical school after having lunch. His ears always perk up when he hears footsteps coming up the stairs to our door and squeals and smiles from ear to ear when Robert walks in. His favorite time of day is when his dad gives him a nighttime bottle and puts him to sleep. He is definitely and daddy's boy and it's darling.

We love this growing boy even more than last month!!

Favorite Things Party

Through the past year or so I had seen the ideas of throwing a "favorite things" party floating around the great world wide web. I had been itching for an excuse to throw a party, and a Favorite Things party sounds like the perfect excuse to throw a party, have a girls night, and get cool stuff (kind of like Christmas :). And so, two of my friends and I threw a party, and it was a raving success. 

The basic idea is you bring 4 of something you love, and you leave with 4 things your friends love! There was lots of delicious treats, but also great things like cleaning supplies, and nail polishes. 

I also had people bring along their favorite pot luck item to eat. It was pretty funny the things we ended up eating. We had everything from doughnuts, to Italian sodas and a plum upside down cake (soo delicious). I didn't get tons of pictures, but here they are, in all their glory, haha!
