Two Months

Our little friend here has reached his two month mark. We went to the doctors today and were surprised to find out that it was shot month! I was under the impression that it was the following month- false. I was a little bit worried because I had no idea how he would handle it, but he was a champ! There were three shots; on the first needle his eyes grew about 10x their size and with the second needle he let out a huge cry and was incredibly tear stricken by the third. I picked him up and within about a minute he turned back into my sweet boy and fell asleep about 20 seconds after we drove away.

Calvin nows weighs a whopping 11 lbs and 15 oz (39 percentile), measuring at exactly 22 inches (9 percentile) and his head measuring 15.5 inches (56 percentile). I felt like he had grown so much in the past two weeks I was really surprised to see that he is considered small for his age. I do think all of his length is in his torso, because in the past 3 days his 0-3 month onesies are a little small because they  pull down pretty far on the neck because they are being stretched in order to snap.

Over the past week Calvin was going through a growth spurt, which was not very fun on my part. At first I thought he was just struggling with his naps and therefore needing to eat sooner (he eats when he wakes up), and by the time I realized it was a growth spurt the kid was eating every two hours and only taking 20-30 minute naps. Naps are pretty much holy time for me, so I was a little bit so sad.

Good news is that our little champ is sleeping through the night! His first night was last Monday, sleeping from 7:30 pm- 5:30 am. I fed him and he went back to sleep till 7:30 am. Each night he will either wake up at 5:30 to eat and then go back down, or he will sleep straight until about 6:30 or 7 when he is up for the day!

Calvin loves his dad and always gives him a huge smile when he gets home from work, or when Robert surprises him on Saturdays by getting him up for the day rather than me! He also LOVES to use his legs. If we are holding him he prefers to stand on our lap rather than being cradled like a babe. When his is in the bath he is always kicking his legs and pushing off the edge of the bath tub like a little frog.
He is also incredible intense; he really only smiles when he wakes up and has eaten, and other than that he just stares intensely at things and people. My sister says that she feels like she is being judged (which is totally true! His stares are almost eerie), and other say that he must be a thinker. Either way, we love our little Calvin Wixom Davis!

Rexburg, oh Rexburg

In case you couldn't tell from all of my previous blog posts, I LOVE Idaho. Mostly just Rexburg, but Blackfoot (where my Grandma lives) has a special place in my heart as well. The hardest thing about moving to Reno was having to leave Rexburg; but don't worry, I already wrote a long and sappy post about it here.

Rexburg is honestly the greatest little town in the world; yeah it has is oddities, but I love it! I love that it's so close to the outdoors, I love the spirit that resides in the town, and I love that the people are humble and kind and the whole "keeping up with the Jones'" hasn't overtaken the town. I was so excited when I had the chance to go back with little Calvin last week! Natalie & Mark finally got to meet him, as well as my grandma, aunt and some cousins!

Calvin was actually a champ making the 9-hour-turned-12-hour journey (thank you crazy storm that washed out the I-15)!  He mostly just stared at his dog.

When we got there my mom & dad (who decided to fly instead of drive 12 hours :) and grandma met us in Rexburg for some Craigo's! (aka- pizza pie cafe)

I pulled out the camera and the first thing he did was his "cheesy face".

On Saturday we spent the afternoon in Blackfoot enjoying the last bits of Summer with Aunt Sandy, Alicia, her kids and Abby. Grandmas apple tree was over flowing so we spent some quality time picking bushels of apples.

Calvin also spent time bonding with Grandma (who I nicknamed the baby whisperer)

Darwin gets his camera skills from his mother, Collette.

On Friday morning we woke up and helped Natalie finish harvesting her massive garden since the first freeze came that night. She harvests corn by the wheelbarrows and Emerson loves to help by shucking his own corn (one piece at a time) and eating it raw.

 We love Idaho!

I was also lucky enough to go and visit some good friends, but sadly I didn't get any pictures. We sure have been blessed to meet some wonderful, lifelong friends in Rexburg. We love you guys and miss you!

Viva Las Vegas

A week and a half ago (when my parents were here in Reno) my mom and sister talked me into flying home to Vegas with Calvin and my mom. Since we don't see much of Robert anyway, and he was preparing for an exam I thought, "hey, what the heck?!".
It's already destined that Calvin and I are going to be travel buddies for the next 4 years.
Double bonus, my mom and dad were going up to Idaho during my stay for my dad's class reunion and I would get to tag along!

While we were in Las Vegas Calvin got to spend more time with his cousin, Darwin. Darwin even sang him songs when he got sad. He also loved to shake his hand and give him "bones" (aka knuckles).

While we were in Vegas I finally got to go downtown to the Container Park! I had heard so many great things about it, and it lived up to the hype. I didn't get to do much with Calvin, but Darwin played in the huge tree house and had a blast.

Calvin also got to meet his cousins Ernie & Caleb and Uncle "dr. Dre" (as Darwin calls him) and Auntie Mel.

He also got to meet most of the Davis clan! (He will get to meet Aunt Amy, soon!) We even got to go visit family at work. (I wish I would have gotten more pictures of Calvin with his Aunts and Uncles but he was getting cranky towards the end of our visit :)

Next stop, Rexburg!

Football Season! (aka- eat fancy food season!)

On Friday UNR had their first home game of the football season! My dad and mom were both up here for a USHE Board of Regents meeting (the board that governs all higher education in Nevada) and so we were invited to attend the President's Tailgate party.

The tailgate party (if you want to call it that), was just a fancy catered dinner with lots of people who probably wouldn't be seen at an actual tailgate party eating nachos and hot dogs :), but our little son Calvin was the hit of the party. Everyone oooed and awed over him; I am so used to living in Rexburg that I forgot most people haven't seen or held a 6 week old in years!

After the dinner Robert went home to study for his first exam on Monday and put Calvin to bed, and the rest of us headed up to the presidents box to watch the game- which involved- yep, you guessed it, more catered food :).

I've never really been a big "let's go dress up in team colors and watch football" kind of person. At all. But after my dad was elected into the board of regents and football games included eating fancy food in the presidents box on padded chairs, I became a TOTAL football fan. That's how I do sports, and it's awesome.

This New Life

In the past two months we have moved from Rexburg to Reno, had a baby and started medical school. Needless to say in the past two months my life has done a complete 180 and it took me a while to adjust, but I feel like we finally have some consistency and a routine down in this new life of ours!

And this is what we have been up to:

We spent a considerable amount of time preparing the nursery for our new addition. My friend Tiffany painted the wood plank art for my baby shower gift, inspired by RH Baby & Child. I am obsessed with it! She did such a good job.

Before little Calvin joined our family Robert was "nesting" and he painted the USS Constitution on wood plank for Calvin's bathroom.
While he was busy painting, so was I! It took us about three weeks, but we found a dresser for Calvin's room. There were some nicks on it, and I didn't want a pure white dresser for his room. I was inspired by a two tone dresser on Censtational Girl, and decided to go for it. We painted the drawers blue, and then mixed it with white for the rest of the dresser. I still don't have a picture of the finished dresser because I am still trying to find descent knobs to replace the battered ones with.

Before: (still no after picture :)

In the last few weeks as I have adjusted to only having 45 minutes of Robert's time a day, I have made a goal to do one home/ crafty project a week. Sadly, it is a lot harder to accomplish with a 6 week old than one would expect.

My paint dipped kitchen jars:

Along with my projects and Robert's studying, we have this little ham to keep us me busy.
Robert is good enough to get Clavin ready for bed each night. We have the same routine: bath, lotion massage, PJ's, bottle, swaddle and song. While Robert draws Calvin's bath he will stick Calvin's feet in the running water and Calvin loves it! (Even if his face says otherwise). Lately Robert has been teaching Calvin all about Embryology while they do their night time routine. (Med school really is on Robert's mind, all the time)

And…he is officially in his 0-3 month clothing! Which also means he can finally rock his Toms…cue the happy dance.
